On February 03, 2012 Hindustan Times reported that four auto drivers were arrested by the Kashimira police for creating a ruckus on Kashimira Road on Thursday, threatening passengers and auto drivers from other parts of the city and for surrounding and threatening India Against Corruption (IAC) volunteers. Arun Sinha, chairman, Jaihind Cab Chalak Malak Sanghatana, Rajesh Yadav, Anjan Kumar Pandey and Suresh Singh have been arrested. “Investigations will be conducted and we are expecting to arrest 5-6 more people who indulged in similar acts such as threatening passengers and auto drivers from other parts of the city,“ said PR Purve, inspector from Kashimira Police station.

On February 02, 2012 Times of India reported that two 19-year-olds studying in a polytechnic were arrested on charges of extorting money and threatening to stall the marriage of a girl student by sending photographs, showing one of the boys with the girl, to the groom’s family. Police said R Manikandan from Thengathittu in Puducherry, studying in a polytechnic in Cuddalore district, on learning that his classmate’s marriage was fixed, managed to trace the girl student’s house in Tirukoilyur and approached her grandfather 15 days ago with photographs in which the girl was seen with him.

On January 13, 2012 The Pioneer reported that a jilted lover allegedly murdered a 19-year-old woman and critically injured her sister on Thursday. Anita and her sister Kavita were found lying in a pool of blood in the forests of south Delhi’s Vasant Kunj North area. Anita was declared brought dead in hospital, while Kavita is battling for her life. Police have detained a neighbour of the victim’s sister, following a complaint filed by their father.

On January 09, 2012 Times of India reported that actor Shiva Balaji and film distributor Sunil Narayan have joined the infamous list of celebrities caught driving under the influence of alcohol. On Saturday night, the Jubilee Hills traffic police, who were conducting a special drive against drunken driving at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, intercepted the Ford Fiesta driven by the actor. During the breath analyzer test, police discovered that the blood alcohol content of Shiva was 68/100mg against the permitted limit of 30/100 mg. Police immediately seized his car (TN 41 S 4701), driving licence and sent the actor home. He was asked to appear before court on Monday.

On December 26, 2011 Times of India reported that Sawapnil Baliram Patole, a 25-year-old student from US who returned to India for Christmas vacations, was on Saturday night arrested by the Mumbai police as his name figured in the Mumbai police lookout notice. The immigration cell at the airport informed the Mumbai Cyber Investigating Cell, which arrested Patole in a two-year-old-case where he was wanted for outraging the modesty of a woman, threatening and extortion. Patole, a student of mechanical engineering in US, is from a well-to-do family in Kolhapur.

On December 26, 2011 Times of India reported that a team of satellite police officials raided an illegal business process outsourcing (BPO) unit near Shivranjani and found that the unit was involved in debt collection operations. The officials have charged a trio operating the BPO with Information Technology Act sections. According to investigators, J M Bharwad, inspector of Satellite police station, received a tip-off that a BPO in Iskcon Center near Shivranjani crossroads makes threatening calls abroad and are involved in debt recovery business. On visiting the spot, Bharwad found that the unit was in fact registered as a clinic for weight loss.

On December 23, 2011 DNA reported that the Sahakarnagar police on Thursday arrested two suspects from Kolhapur for allegedly extorting money from a couple by threatening to kidnap their son. The arrested suspects have been identified as Chandrakant Balasaheb Koshti (36) and Santosh Nilappa Jotavar (20). Another suspect, Mahananda Chandrakant Koshti (36), is on the run.
