On April 30, 2012 Ahmedabad Mirror reported that a 25-year-old youth was arrested on Sunday for molesting a minor girl in Juhapura. According to the complaint filed by the girl’s parents, auto driver Gulam Mustafa Sheikh kidnapped and molested their eight-year-old daughter Shaheen (name changed). On Sunday morning, Juhapura resident Shaheen had gone to the Al-Madina madrassa for religious tuition along with her five-year-old brother. “At 10.30 am, when the girl came out of the madrassa, Sheikh asked her to accompany her to his house. He told her that he wanted her to take some religious books to the maulana of the madrassa. Shaheen asked her brother to wait while she went with Sheikh to his home, which was across the madrassa. As soon as the child entered the house, Sheikh locked the door,” the complaint stated.

On April 20, 2012 The Times of India reported that the police have arrested five persons on rape and dacoity charges here. Those arrested included a minor boy and the victim?s boyfriend, while the Titwala police are searching for another accused. The police said those arrested were Sagar Bhagat (23), Anoop Gondhade (19), Pandurang Sagte (21), Rajesh (name changed as accused is minor) and Amar Shelar (19). The sixth accused was identified as Datta Chavan (23).

On April 17, 2012 DNA reported that the CBI on Monday arrested six persons involved in the 2007 killing of a couple belonging to the Pardhi community. The accused Karu Narwal, Doma Lohar, Jeevan, Gajju and Ramesh were produced before the Jabalpur bench of High Court. The special CBI judge remanded them to seven days police remand. In 2009, the high court had ordered a CBI probe into the incident in which a locality inhabited by Pardhi (tribe) community members was set blaze resulting in the death of a couple. The incident took place on September 11, 2007 in Chouthia village of Betul district.

On April 13, 2012 Mid-Day reported that a 25-year-old youth was arrested for raping and beating his teenaged domestic help in the capital’s Jamia Nagar, police said. Nadeem was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly raping and physically assaulting the girl for two years. Police said the girl, who is from Bihar, was raped for the first time by her employers’ son Nadeem two years back. Nadeem’s parents apparently did not stay with them and he had been beating and sexually assaulting her in their absence.

On April 10, 2012 The Times of India reported that the Vartak Nagar police arrested a 25-year-old man for allegedly selling off his 14-year-old sister for Rs 60,000. Five others were also nabbed. Deepak Gadekar allegedly fixed the “deal” to marry off his sister to a 32-year-old man for cash. The minor’s “marriage” to Dinesh Mali was said to have been illegally solemnized at a temple in Gujarat. The police said Dinesh had been charged with rape for allegedly having sex with his minor “bride”.

On April 04, 2012 Ahmedabad Mirror reported that a 35-year-old Surat woman has lodged a rape and kidnapping complaint against 17 men, including five cops and a nagarpalika president. The victim, who was repeatedly raped for more than 20 days, had approached local police in Surat but the cops refused to take down her complaint. It was only after the intervention of director general of police that CID Crime Branch lodged her complaint and also made four policemen accused who turned her away. On April 02, 2012 Times of India reported that a 63-year old migrant labourer from Tamil Nadu was arrested, on Sunday, for raping a five-year-old girl at Kalamassery. Police said the incident occurred on Saturday after the accused, Chandran abducted the girl from the courtyard of her house where she was playing. ?He lured her by offering sweets. We conducted a medical examination on her and confirmed rape. The accused will be produced before the court on Monday,? police said.
