Rewari: 35-year-old woman set on fire after rape

On November 17, 2011 Hindustan Times reported that a 35-year-old woman of Dulhera Khurd village in south Haryana's Rewari district was allegedly raped and burnt to death on Tuesday. Her burnt body was found in her house late on Tuesday. The victim and her two children were sleeping in their house in Dulhera Khurd when Narpal (only identified by that name), a neighbour, entered the house and allegedly raped her, the police said. Her husband was reportedly away attending a wedding at the time of the crime. On hearing screams from the house, villagers reached there but by then Narpal had fled, they said. He was arrested on Wednesday.

Bangalore: 16-year-old kidnapped, raped by jilted lover

On November 14, 2011 Times of India reported that preliminary investigation into the alleged kidnap and rape of a 16-year-old girl have revealed that the accused, Rajashekhar Subramani, had repeatedly raped the minor. “Doctors have found that the accused physically abused his victim, much against her wishes. There are indications that the victim did resist his attempts,” doctors reportedly told Whitefield police. However, police are waiting for the medical report before proceeding with charging Rajashekhar with kidnapping and raping a minor. “The victim said Rajashekhar forced her to marry him and on refusing, physically abused her,” cops added.

Chennai: Councillor booked on attempt to rape charges

On November 04, 2011 Times of India reported that Police are looking for a councillor who allegedly tried to rape a woman at his house on Wednesday. The victim runs a grocery in a room rented out by Srinivasan, an independent councilor of Thiruneermalai town panchayat near Tambaram. According to the woman, who is a resident of Thiruneermalai, the councilor asked her to come to his house to settle the bill for the purchases he made. She went to Srinivasan’s house and he invited her to come into the house. When she refused, he groped her and dragged her, she alleged.

New Delhi: Elderly man sentenced to 5 years for raping minor

On November 02, 2011 The Pioneer reported that the court sentenced Anwar to five years in jail while setting off the part of his sentence against four years and 11 months of imprisonment already undergone by him as undertrial. The court said, “After considering the facts and circumstances and the fact that convict Anwar remained in custody for the last about four years and 11 months and he was suffering from incurable diseases of backbone cancer and tuberculosis and also his age and family circumstances, I am of the opinion that there are adequate and special reasons to impose a sentence for a term less than seven years.”

Hyderabad: Authorities foil murderous plans of two city-based businessmen

On November 01, 2011 Times of India reported that in separate incidents, Task Force sleuths foiled the murderous plans of two city-based businessmen and arrested them on Tuesday. In the first incident, a Task Force team nabbed Mirza Mustaq Ali Baig, 28, who is into ice cream manufacturing business from Chilkalguda, for planning to eliminate an advocate, Jaffer, from Dabeerpura. According to Task Force DCP Ch Ramchander, Baig had recently approached a history-sheeter from Chilkalguda to eliminate advocate Jaffer. Baig reportedly offered the history-sheeter Rs. 1.5 lakh to do the job. However, due to increased surveillance on him, the history-sheeter informed Task Force sleuths about the contract and police nabbed Baig from his house in Warasiguda on Tuesday.

Sangrur: Two inmates beat prisoner to death

On October 28, 2011 Hindustan Times reported that Bachitter Singh, serving a life sentence, of village Guara, was beaten to death by two inmates at the high-security Sangrur jail on Thursday. Sonu Singh of village Majhi and Jit Singh of village Kanganwal had an argument with the deceased over watching a particular TV channel. The minor issue snowballed and the deceased was thrashed by the duo, leading to death. Sonu Singh is accused in a rape case and Jit Singh is an accused in a dowry death.

Mumbai: Four sentenced to 10 years for raping a minor girl

On October 18, 2011 Mumbai Mirror reported that the Vasai Sessions Court on Monday sentenced four persons to 10 years rigorous imprisonment for the rape of a minor girl on Friendship Day, August 2, 2009 (MM August 4, 2009). Judicial Magistrate R M Joshi also fined Ryan D'Souza, Prem Shivnal, Rajkumar Yadav and Lachibhai Sejav Rs 5,000 each, and they will face six months additional jail if they don’t pay, Public Prosecutor Ujwala Moholkar said.

Navi Mumbai: Nine-year-old girl molested by teacher

On October 14, 2011 DNA reported that a teacher from Taloja Pachnand Zilla Parishad school has been arrested by Taloja police for allegedly molesting a nine-year-old girl from the school. The class III girl was allegedly molested by the teacher on Tuesday, her mother said. On Wednesday, her father and some other people barged into a classroom and started beating the teacher. The victim's father then took him to a police station. A medical test of the teacher and the alleged victim revealed that there was no rape, so a case of molestation was registered with Taloja police, Sr PI D Gule from Taloja police station said. The teacher's name is Subhash Mhatre.

Ahmedabad: Minor raped by 60-year-old

On October 10, 2011 Times of India reported that a 60-year-old grocer has been booked by Bardoli police for allegedly trying to rape a six-year-old girl in Station Road area on Friday evening. Situation remained tense in Bardoli town on Saturday and Sunday as both the accused and the victim belonged to different communities. Additional police force has been deployed in the town to avert any untoward situation. The victim, who had gone to the accused’s shop to buy potato wafers, had injury marks on her private parts.

Mumbai: Father-in-law faces law over rape, torture

On October 05, 2011 Mumbai Mirror reported that a 24-year-old woman lodged a complaint of rape against her father-in-law at Malad police station on Monday. Stating that her husband is impotent, she has alleged that her husband’s mother and sister also connived with her father-in-law. The complainant Vinita Kumar, who has a three-year-old daughter, wants a paternity test on her father-in-law, Ramesh Kumar. Vinita has alleged harassment at her husband’s home in Malad. Copies of the complaint have been sent to the police commissioner and home minister and is available with Mumbai Mirror.
