Midnapore: One more maoist surrenders before police

On November 21, 2011 Hindustan Times reported that Taking a cue from Maoist couple Jagari Baske and Rajaram Soren, another rebel cadre turned himself over in Purulia on Sunday. Rabi Mandi, an active Maoist action squad member, surrendered before district police chief Sunil Choudhury on the day. The latest setback to the rebels came days after Jagari appeared before the media along with her husband and son at Writers’ after formally turning herself over to the state police. “Mandi, who operated under the name Singrai in the Maoist action squad, had been active over the last two years and had been involved in several cases violence and murder, today turned himself over to us. We are presently working out the modalities of his rehabilitation,” said Choudhury.

Kolkata: Most wanted woman Maoist surrenders

On November 18, 2011 Hindustan Times reported that Chief minister Mamata Banerjee, on Thursday, won a psychological battle in her war with Maoists when CPI (Maoist) squad veteran Jagari Baske, one of the most prominent names in Bengal's rebel domain, surrendered to the police with fellow rebel and husband Rajaram. Both were showcased with their son by the chief minister herself in a symbolic repudiation of the Maoist line.

New Delhi: Prime accused in Jnaneswari Express accident case nabbed

On November 14, 2011 Times of India reported that the CBI may take its investigations into the Jnaneswari Express accident case further with the prime accused Asit Mahato – who was carrying a reward of Rs 1 lakh – being arrested from Gorneta village in West Midnapore district. Acting on the basis of information provided by five Maoists arrested from Salboni in West Midnapore district on Saturday, the joint forces arrested Mahato from an abandoned house at Gorneta village on Sunday morning. CBI spokesperson Dharini Mishra confirmed his arrest. The CBI will now take his custody and interrogate him.

On November 11, 2011 Hindustan Times reported that in a major achievement during the ongoing anti-Naxalite operations by the Bihar police and the central paramilitary forces in the Kaimur plateau, forces led by Rohtas SP Manu Maharaj attacked a Maoist camp in the forest near Suarmanawan village in Chutia police station area of Rohtas district and busted an arms manufacturing unit of the Maoists and arrested six hardended Maoists.

On November 08, 2011 The Pioneer reported that after the arrest of Arta Bhoi on the charge of nurturing Maoists activities in the forest region again, the police arrested another veteran cadre based rebel Bisi Pradhan from Mudtal village under Jujomura police station on Monday and forwarded him to court. The police detained him on Sunday near Marangbahal village. He was engaged in conspiracy against the local police in their movement against the Maoists, collecting funds for the organisation, providing all sorts of support to them, alluring local youths to join the cadres and organising camps in the forest villages, the police said.

Sasaram: Two top Maoist commanders, six criminals apprehended

On November 07, 2011 Hindustan Times reported that Rohtas police arrested two top Maoist commanders and six hardened criminals with arms and ammunition, during raids conducted in different police station areas of the district on Sunday. CPI (Maoist) Nauhatta area commander, Daroga Chaudhary alias Raja alias Bhardul was arrested by a joint team of police, CRPF and CoBRA battalion led by Chutia station house officer (SHO) Arun Akela from Tiura forests. A .315 bore pistol, live cartridges and two mobile phones were recovered from the extremists and criminals, said SP Manu Maharaj.

Madurai: Three more nabbed in bomb planting case

On November 03, 2011 Times of India reported that a day after two persons were nabbed for planting a pipe bomb under a bridge on senior BJP leader L K Advani’s Jan Chetna Yatra route near Madurai, the special investigating team (SIT) on Wednesday detained three more persons in connection with the case. SIT sources said the trio had been held based on the confessions of Abdhullah and Ismath, the two men who were arrested on Tuesday. They have picked up three more persons from the city, including Kodi Veeranan, a fruit agent from Nelpettai. Police sources said they tracked more than 3,000 calls from the mobile towers in Thirumangalam and the surrounding areas and found that at least 20 persons had crossed the Alampatti lower bridge under which the pipe bomb was planted between 3am and 5am on October 28.

Bermo: Three maoist arrested, recover arms

On October 25, 2011 The Pioneer reported that In a joint operation, the Bermo police and the CRPF nabbed three CPI (Maoist) ultras near Chanderpura railway crossing here on Monday evening. The security forces have also recovered two 0.303 and 0.315 rifles along with 8 live cartridges, two detonators and two gelatin rods from them. The three nabbed Ultras have been identified as — Vinod Handsa, Babu Chand Murmu and Ramlal Manjhi. Bokaro Superintendent of police Kuldeep Dewedi said that the three Maoists are the men of Navin Manjhi and used to work for him.

On October 14, 2011 Hindustan Times reported that a close associate of PCAPA leader Chhatradhar Mahato was arrested on Wednesday and remanded in seven days' police custody by the Jhargram court. Laso Hembram, who had rebel links, is accused in at least 28 cases, including the abduction of constables Kanchan Garai and Sabbir Hossain and murder.
