Jaipur: Police apprehends three Maoists

On July 06, 2011 The Pioneer reported that three Maoists allegedly involved in the killing of securitymen and many crimes were arrested from Jajpur Road and Keonjhar areas on Tuesday. “In a joint combing operation by Jajpur and Keonjhar police arrested the Maoists. The police also seized two guns from them. All the three arrested Maoists have been identified as Gora Hansada (24) of village Rangamatia, Shyamasundar Bakse (24) of village Rangamatia and Ramachandra Hemrum (22) of Chandipasi village.

Orissa: Police apprehends Maoist commander

On June 23, 2011 The Pioneer reported that the police on Wednesday during area domination and combing operations in Saranda jungle arrested a top Maoist Kandaru Lohar alias Golap alais Fuchand of Jharbeda under Bisra police station in Sundargarh district. A team of CRPF, DVF and local police. He is the right hand of slain Maoist area commander Md Muslim and was the area commander of Digha after Muslim’s death. The police recovered one automatic pistol, five rounds of live ammunition and Maoist posters and leaflets. He was involved in more than 19 cases, said Rourkela DCP Himanshu Lal in a Press meet on Wednesday here. In another incident, in a major breakthrough, the Special Operation Group (SOG) Jawans on Tuesday morning gunned down one Maoist, reportedly a woman, during combing operations in the Saanbanjipali Jungle in Khaprakhol block, 90km away from here.

Ahmedabad: 26/7 serial blasts – key accused nabbed

On June 22, 2011 Ahmedabad Mirror reported that city Crime Branch on Tuesday arrested the key accused in the 2008 Ahmedabad serial bomb blasts Danish Riaz. He was arrested at Vadodara railway station and was brought to the city. Riaz was involved in planning and executing the serial blasts. According to CB officials, Danish Riaz alias Safi, resident of Bariatu in Ranchi, was in Vadodara to meet someone, however, the reason behind his visit is yet to be ascertained. It is to be noted that this was Raiz’s first visit to Gujarat, and therefore police are suspecting a major operation underway, supposedly targeting the forthcoming Rathyatra. Riaz was working with a software company and is an active member of Students Islamic Movement of India (Simi) and Indian Mujahideen (IM).

Gaya: Maoist allegedly played key role in 2005 jailbreak

On June 17, 2011 Times of India reported that Jagdish Master, the arrested politburo member of the CPI(Maoist), is on the police scanner for his possible role in the November 13, 2005 Jehanabad jailbreak case in which the rebels engineered the escape of several of their colleagues lodged in the jail. Asked about the possibility of Master’s involvement in the jailbreak, Gaya SSP Vinay Kumar said this aspect was being looked into but it would not be proper to reveal the details at this stage. Since Jagdish Master was involved both in policy making and execution level within the organisation, his involvement cannot be ruled out, the SSP added. Police sources said the name of Jagdish alias Rana figured in the FIR of the Jehanabad jailbreak case. Police are trying to find out if Rana was one of the nearly half-a-dozen assumed names of Jagdish Master.

Patna: Police apprehends top Maoist leader

On June 14, 2011 The Pioneer reported that a top Maoist leader has been arrested in Bihar. He was carrying a reward of Rs. 2 lakh on his head. According to the State police, Jagdish Yadav alias Jagdish Master was arrested from Gaya where he was undergoing medical treatment at a doctor’s clinic. The doctor, Lalji Prasad too was later arrested from a village. “A joint team of Special Task Force of Bihar Police, District Armed Police and CRPF surrounded a private clinic at Guraru Bazaar and captured the Naxal leader on Sunday night,” Gaya Superintendent of Police Vinay Kumar, who was leading the team, informed. Acting on a tip-off the police team surrounded Sharda Seva Kendra, a private clinic where the Maoist leader was being treated, and arrested him.

On June 03, 2011 The Pioneer reported that an alleged ISI agent, who was providing vital information related to Military installations in Roorkee and Meerut, to an officer of the Pakistani intelligence agency, was on Wednesday evening arrested from Roorkee. A resident of Meerut, Furkan Ahmed Ansari, alias KK, alias Ajay was arrested from Roorkee railway station on Wednesday evening, while he was about to catch a train. Police recovered several important maps and photographs of Military installations in Roorkee and Meerut from Furkan. Furkan is presently being jointly interrogated by Haridwar district police and Central and Military intelligence groups.

Bhubaneswar: Top Maoist in police remand

On June 03, 2011 The Pioneer reported that Odisha Police on Thursday took top Maoist leader Duna Keshav Rao alias Azad in custody and produced him before the SDJM court, Nayagarh. Though the Crime Branch ADG claimed that Azad was arrested from the State capital on Wednesday his family said he was handed over by the Andhra Pradesh Police to their Odisha counterparts. He said the police made a request for remand of Azad and the court granted them 72 hours custody. After he was produced in the court he has been lodged in the Jharpara Special jail here. Sources said the top Maoist will be grilled for his involvement in the murder of Swami Laxmanananda Saraswati, the attack on R Udaygiri jail, the onslaught on Nayagarh police armoury and the blowing of an ambulance in Kandhamal.

Puri: Hardcore Maoist couple surrenders

On May 30, 2011 The Pioneer reported that a hardcore Maoist couple surrendered before the police here on Sunday. Puri Superintendent of Police Sanjay Kumar presented the duo before the media. The couple was identified as Aniruddha Behera alias Prakash (36) of Arilo village under the Nimapada police limits in Puri district while his wife Rajalaxmi Biswal alias Nikku (22) hailing from Paikakula village of Jagatsinghpur district. Aniruddha was a member of the Maoist Ghumusar Division while his spouse was acting as bodyguard of top Maoist Sabyasachi Panda as well as the secretary to the cultural committee of the Ghumusar Division.

Lohardaga: Four Maoists arrested for surprise attack

On May 19, 2011 Hindustan Times reported that four Maoists, including a woman, have been arrested in Lohardaga district of Jharkhand in connection with the Dhardhadia ambush in which 11 security men were killed on May 3, the police said on Wednesday. Suna Kharva, Bishnu Asur, Sudhua Asur and 20-year-old Rehena Khatun were arrested on Tuesday from Chanduagarh village, superintendent of police AV Minz told reporters. “After interrogation, they confessed to their involvement in the incident. It was Suna who’d called up the police to say that 10 Maoists had congregated at Dhardhadia. A series of landmines was set off when the team reached there,“ Minz said.

Mumbai: Senior policeman in trouble for underworld links

On May 05, 2011 Mumbai Mirror reported that a senior police officer attached to the Anti-Terrorism Squad is in trouble over his links with the underworld. Pune police is in possession of taped conversations between Deputy Commissioner of Police Pradip Sawant and fugitive don Dawood Ibrahim’s right-hand man, Chhota Shakeel, wherein Sawant can be heard asking the gangster to stop making extortion calls to Pune-based builder, Anis Somji. Sawant, who is also an accused in the Telgi fake stamps scandal, made these calls in January this year. He also spoke with former Pakistan cricket captain Javed Miandad, whose son is married to Dawood’s daughter, to plead Somji’s case.
