On October 20, 2011 The Pioneer reported that in a major breakthrough, district police arrested five criminals during a raid at Sidhgora in the wee hours of Wednesday. The arrested criminals were identified as Jasbir Singh, Amarjeet Pandey, Md Wasim Ansari, Dharmendra Pradhan and Shiv Shankar Dubey. They are members of notorious Akhilesh Singh gang and had come to the city to kill a hotelier and two others belonging to rival Paramjeet Singh gang.

On August 18, 2011 The Pioneer reported that in a Bollywood flick style six prisoners including two hardcore Naxalites escaped from Seraikela Jail on Wednesday evening overpowering the jailer with gun point. Superintendent of Police Abhishek Kumar said that Maoist rebels Sumra Hansda, involved in 30 criminal cases, and another hardcore Naxalite Balram Sahu alies who was recently brought on transit from Ranchi, overpowered the jailer on gun-point and ran away from the main gate. Four other inmates also escaped during the chaos. Those are Bablu Baghchi, Ravi Singh Munda, Ganesh Pramanik and Rakhal Kandiya. “We are investigating the matter and we have also detained the jail guard,” informed a police official.

On June 29, 2011 The Pioneer reported that in a case of corporal punishment gone out of hand, seven girl students of a city school were admitted to the Tata Main Hospital after they fell unconscious from being caned by one of their teachers who has since been suspended. The incident happened at the Beldih Church School in the posh CH area locality, regarded as a hub for school education for the incidents in the vicinity. The woman teacher, Neelanjana Chatterjee, had reportedly taken the step after she found the girls were making noise and creating a ruckus inside the classroom. She had first asked them to do 100 sit-ups and but when the girls did not listen to her, she retorted to caning them.

On June 07, 2011 The Pioneer reported that in a major breakthrough, the police on Monday busted a fake currency racket by arresting two persons from Hata under Potka police station area of the East Singhbhum district. Fake currency notes worth Rs. 45,500 were recovered from Sambhu Das and Mithun Ray, both residents of Haldipokhar in Potka block. Both arrested duo, in their early thirties, were wanted in a number of cases, including forgery and loot in at least three police stations in the district. When contacted superintendent of police (rural) Ranjit Prasad said acting on a tip off a police team nabbed the two racketeers. On February 04, 2011 Pioneer reported that in a major achievement for the Seraikela Kharsawan police, hardcore Maoist, Sumra Hansda was arrested from Sesakocha forest area along with arms and objectionable literature. Sumra Hansda is accused in 20 cases including murder, dacoity and attack on police. He is a named accused in the landmine blast at Sesakocha in which CRPF jawan K Chandrashekar Reddy was killed last year and was also wanted in the murder of Congress leader Dushashan Mahato.
