Hyderabad: Suspect snatches revolver from constable and escapes

On March 09, 2011 Deccan Chronicle reported that a remand prisoner snatched away the revolver of a head constable who was escorting him and fled the scene. The incident took place in Ponnala village in Medak district. According to sources, P. Malliah was arrested and lodged in the Siddipet sub jail for his involvement in a property dispute under Toopran police station limits.

Hyderabad: Cheating case against actor & his family

On March 4, 2011 Times of India reported that on court’s directive, the Cyberabad police on Thursday booked cases against actor Allu Arjun and his family members for allegedly encroaching four acres of land belonging to their neighbour. Acting on the directions of the VIII metropolitan magistrate of Cyberabad, the Narsingi police have booked cases under sections 420 (Cheating), 468, 471 and 474 r/w 34 of IPC against Allu Arjun, his mother Allu Nirmala, brother Allu Sirish and aunt, Vasanta Lakshmi.

On March 01, 2011 Deccan Chronicle reported that the Amberpet police on Monday arrested a retired circle inspector for marrying five women without their knowledge. The former cop was arrested following a complaint by one of his wives, Ms Nusrath Fathima. “Gulam Mohammed Ali, 65, was arrested and sent to judicial remand after being produced in court,” said the Amberpet inspector, Mr T. Govardhan.

Hyderabad: Prime accused in Exam paper leak case interrogated

On February 28, 2011 Deccan Chronicle reported that according to the police, the prime accused in the LIC exam paper leak case, Yogeshwar Kumar Rao, a school teacher, had managed to get the question papers from the press where it was printed. He then passed it on to agents who in turn, approached candidates appearing for the exams. For the post of AAO in LIC, the gang collected Rs.7 lakh from each candidate and provided the question paper one day before the exam.

On February 25, 2011 Deccan Chronicle reported that sleuths of the Commissioner’s Task Force, North Zone, on Thursday arrested four persons for making “threatening calls” to political leaders. The offenders had made the threatening calls to the MLA and BJP state president, Mr G. Kishan Reddy, the minister for textiles, Mr P. Shankar Rao, the MIM MLA, Mr Afsar Khan among others.

On February 18, 2011 Deccan Chronicle reported that the Special Intelligence Branch of AP Police believes that Orissa Maoists got locals to lure the Malkangiri district collector, Mr R. Vineel Krishna, into their trap in a remote village in the district near the AP border on Wednesday evening. “Local people asked him to visit the village stating that they are facing serious water scarcity and other problems,” said an intelligence official. “The collector who was involved in village contact programmes walked into the trap.”

On February 18, 2011 Deccan Chronicle reported that a mandal engineer was trapped by the sleuths of the Anti-Corruption Bureau on Thursday. According to the ACB officials, N. Hanuma Naik, mandal engineering officer, Parigi (mandal), Ananthapur district, was caught red handed in the office of MPDO, Parigi, when he demanded and accepted the bribe amount of Rs. 6,000 from the complainant for doing an official favour of processing a bill.

On February 18, 2011 Deccan Chronicle reported that a woman committed suicide following dowry harassment under the Kushaiguda police station limits. According to the sub-inspector, Mr P. Saidulu, J. Rajeshwari, 19, wife of Chinna, committed suicide by hanging herself with a saree from the ceiling fan after she was mentally and physically harassed for additional dowry.

On February 16, 2011 Deccan Chronicle reported that a speeding Innova driven by a drunken person, identified as S.V. Rajesh, ran over two sweepers of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation at around 3 am opposite the Vengalarao Park on Road No. 1 of Banjara Hills. The car belongs to one Mr Gopinath, an Oman-based NRI.
