Acting on a tip-off, a Task Force team laid a trap for Asghar bin Ali and caught him red-handed while he was accepting Rs.10,500 bet from a punter in Old Malakpet on Sunday night. The arrested person along with the seized cash was handed over to the Chaderghat police.

On May 22, 2012 Times of India reported that Task Force sleuths on Monday arrested a con artist who tried to dupe Tollywood producers Chillar Kalyan and Singanamala Ramesh by posing as an Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer. Police arrested K Venkata Ratna Reddy, 36, a resident of Nehru Nagar in Guntur. Acting on a complaint lodged by Kalyan two days ago, a Task Force team began tracking the movements of Reddy and nabbed him when he was waiting for a friend on Road Number 14, Banjara Hills, on Monday morning. Introducing himself as additional commissioner, Directorate of Revenue Intelligence, Ratna Reddy made a phone call to Kalyan on May 11.

On May 21, 2012 Times of India reported that a 21-year-old youth was arrested for illegal possession and sale of arms at Chanchalguda on Sunday. South Zone Task Force police said Salman Ali Khan and his accomplice Arif Saleem, also 21, were travelling with swords in a Maruti Zen near Chanchalguda area. Acting on a tip-off, the sleuths stopped and searched the vehicle. Three swords and a baton knife were recovered. While Khan was arrested, Arif managed to give the cops a slip.

On May 18, 2012 Times of India reported that the Amberpet police on Thursday arrested a chain snatcher involved in eight cases and recovered 23 tolas of gold worth Rs. Six lakh from his possession. The Amberpet police said Mohammed Amer, a glass-fitting worker, was arrested near Mahaveer Jewellers. Amer along with his friend Salim had resorted to snatching offences in the past several months.

The Jubilee Hills police arrested T Varalaxmi alias Sridevi of Film Nagar in Jubilee Hills. On May 5, she had stolen Rs. 35 lakh worth gold jewellery from her employer L Swapnika Reddy?s house at Nandagiri Hills, Road No. 69, Jubilee Hills and left the place saying that she would go to her native place and return after a few days. After discovering the missing jewellery, the employer lodged a complaint with the Jubilee Hills police recently and on Wednesday, acting on a tip off, the crime team sleuths of Jubilee Hills police station nabbed her from Sri Lakhsmi Jewellers in Krishna Nagar while she was trying to dispose of the stolen booty.

On May 15, 2012 Times of India reported that a small-time actor, Sunder, who is also said to be a stuntman, has lodged a complaint with the CB-CID against Telugu film producer Natti Kumar alleging that the latter had tried to extort Rs 1 crore from him in the name of gangster Bhanu. On Monday, Sunder approached CID DIG BL Sujatha Rao saying that the film producer had threatened him using Bhanu’s name when asked to repay a loan of Rs. 1 crore he had given him. Sunder told cops that he can produce promissory notes and post-dated cheques issued by Kumar as documentary evidence to support his allegation.

On May 15, 2012 Times of India reported that police arrested three auto drivers who allegedly gangraped a 19-year-old woman in an abandoned building at Khairatabad on May 10. Abdul Sami, 23, Hameed bin Saleem, 23, both from AC Guards, and Mohammed Moinuddin, 22, of Suleiman Nagar in Chintalmet were taken into custody. The victim, a 19-year-old housewife from Karimnagar, came to the city after an altercation with her husband the previous night.
