On February 01, 2012 Mid-Day reported that harassed and tortured, a 10-year-old rape victim was so incoherent in her narration of the horror she went through that the Nigadi police could make no headway in the investigation of the case. The police finally achieved a breakthrough when the alleged tormentor of the girl walked into the police station to lodge a missing complaint and aroused their suspicion.

Hyderabad: Woman kills husband with the help of two daughters

On January 24, 2012 Times of India reported that fed up with harassment, a woman allegedly murdered her husband with the help of her two daughters at Peerzadiguda on Monday. According to Medipally police, Balaiah, 50, a real estate businessman of Peerzadiguda, was addicted to alcohol. “Every night he used to go home in an inebriated condition and harass his family,” assistant commissioner of police (ACP), Malkajgiri, P Radhakishan Rao said.

On January 17, 2012 Mid Day reported that the long and winding road to justice is fraught with obstacles — none knows this truth better than sexual harassment victim Saroj Gupta, who can only take some comfort in the fact that in her case, justice was delayed, but not denied. The 45-year-old Malad resident had to make at least 50 trips to the police station and register 14 non- cognizable complaints against her harasser before the cops finally arrested him yesterday.

Mumbai: Nigerian nabbed for raping, blackmailing a woman

On December 12, 2011 Mid-Day reported that a 28-year-old Nigerian has been arrested by the Dongri police for allegedly cheating a 23-year-old woman residing in Dongri. Cops said that the accused had taken obscene pictures of the woman and was blackmailing her with them. They also added that he had conned her into believing that they were legally wed. According to the Dongri police, the accused Parsee Osewale Okoffo took his victim to Mantralaya in 2009 and told her that they had got married after which he raped her. "Okoffo met his victim in a church first in 2009, after which they started dating. When they both decided to get married. Okoffo took the victim on April 27, 2009 to Mantralaya on the third floor and asked her to sign some papers and later told her that they had got married now," said a police officer from Dongri police station. "Following that, he had had intercourse with her and took some obscene pictures of her as well," added the officer.

Hyderabad: Police solves auto driver's murder case

On November 28, 2011 Times of India reported that a recent unsolved murder mystery was cracked based on the interrogation of six Hindu Vahini activists arrested for attacks allegedly targeting a particular community. Special Investigation Team (SIT) sleuths discovered that five of the activists had murdered a 20-year-old auto driver near RRC Grounds in Secunderabad on October 4. Police had arrested S Sadanand, 27, an electrician from Karmanghat; Shakthi Vinod, 24, a car driver from Hyderguda; K Unni Krishna, 23, a junior artiste of Warasiguda; P Bhargav alias Balu, 21, a B Sc III year student from Musheerabad; Surya Vamshi Santosh, 22, a student of fashion technology from Ram Nagar; and P Kalyan, 26, an MBA student from Warasiguda; for their role in five alleged communal cases booked recently in the city. On Thursday, SIT police had taken the six activists into their custody.

Mumbai: Woman, brother-in-law arrested for kidnapping and robbing

On November 21, 2011 Mid-Day reported that a 26-year-old woman was arrested on Saturday for kidnapping and robbing a man who she said had been harassing her with persistent obscene calls since July. According to Crime Branch officers of Unit XI, Lakshmi Benbansi and her brother-in-law Ravindranath Gupta (44) were arrested on Saturday from Malad railway station after Ramzanali Khan (35) filed an FIR against the two for kidnapping him and looting Rs 25,000 and his mobile phone. On November 15, Khan in his complaint to the police had said that two days before, Lakshmi and Gupta accosted him in Malwani, bundled him in an auto rickshaw, and looted his mobile and money. After dropping him off at a distance, they fled.

Mumbai: Lawyer's wife seek police protection against husband, son

On November 04, 2011 Mumbai Mirror reported that a long-standing husband-wife ‘tiff’ in a reputed Colaba-based family almost reached the streets on Wednesday night when a woman called the cops on her advocate husband and son. The 71-year-old has alleged a threat to life from her husband for 48 years, R V Bhasin, and son Niyam Bhasin, and has sought a restraining order against them. The cops have admitted the woman’s complaint against her son. The advocate, however, has rejected the accusations as “an exaggeration”. Around 11 pm on Wednesday, the Colaba Police received a panic call by Bindu Bhasin. She claimed that her son and husband were harassing her and trying to evict her from her flat in Colaba, and she needed immediate police protection.

Chennai: Man arrested for blackmailing school principal

On October 20, 2011 Times of India reported that the Tirumangalam police have arrested a 37-year-old man on charges of blackmailing students and principal of a school. The man, president of the parent-teacher association of private school had managed to collect pictures of some students and teachers taking bath and threatened to make them public if his children’s fees weren’t paid, police said. Police said the principal had accompanied several students on an excursion to Wayanad in Kerala in March last year. Later, the accused, G Muthurajan, collected the pictures from some students who had shot them using cameras and mobile phone cameras during the trip. “Muthurajan then started blackmailing the principal, asking her to pay the annual fee for his children who study in the same school,” Tirumangalam inspector Frank D Ruban told TOI.

Hyderabad: Woman commits suicide over dowry harassment

On October 17, 2011 Times of India reported that the unable to put up with the alleged harassment by her husband and in-laws, a 23-year-old housewife ended her life by consuming poison at her residence in Malakpet on Saturday night. The victim was identified as M Saraswati, a native of Ramayampet in Medak. In 2007, she got married to Narender Goud, a resident of Azampura. At the time of her wedding, Saraswati's parents gave Rs 30 lakh cash and 50 tola gold as dowry. However, after the marriage, Narender and his family members continued to harass the woman for additional dowry.

Bangalore: Woman commits suicide over husband's affair

On October 12, 2011 Times of India reported that twenty-four-year-old H S Mamatha, who went to her native Sringeri in Chikmagalur district following alleged harassment by her husband, returned to her marital house here 10 days ago after neighbours bothered her with queries. Late on Monday night, Mamatha committed suicide at her apartment in NHCS Layout, Marenahalli, near Vijayangar after the alleged harassment became unbearable. Mamatha married V A Shivakumar, a software engineer with an IT major, on November 27, 2009. But from day one of their marriage, Shivakumar, also from Sringeri, stayed away from his wife.
