On May 16, 2012 Times of India reported that five jewel thieves, including two women,were arrested by the Thane crime branch recently after enjoying a free run for close to a year. Subhash Dhondu Sawant (48), his wife, Sujita (38), and aides Soni Raj Shetty (44), Dyaneshwar Namdeo Shinde (32) and 65-year-old Subhash Govind Pawar used to target shops that had a lone attendant. The women would keep him busy by asking to see ornaments, while the others stole jewellery and sneaked out of the shop.

On May 15, 2012 Times of India reported that the traffic police have booked the man who banged his bike against another, killing 12-year-old H Shailaja on Sunday, on charges of culpable homicide not amounting to murder. The 21-year-old accused, V Suresh, was drunk at the time of the incident and has been booked under section 304 (II) of the Indian Penal Code, police said. “This is a nonbailable case and he will have to spend time in jail,” said a police officer from the Guindy traffic investigation wing.

On May 15, 2012 Times of India reported that police arrested three auto drivers who allegedly gangraped a 19-year-old woman in an abandoned building at Khairatabad on May 10. Abdul Sami, 23, Hameed bin Saleem, 23, both from AC Guards, and Mohammed Moinuddin, 22, of Suleiman Nagar in Chintalmet were taken into custody. The victim, a 19-year-old housewife from Karimnagar, came to the city after an altercation with her husband the previous night.

On May 15, 2012 The Pioneer reported that with the arrest of two drivers, Delhi Police Crime Branch on Monday claimed to have solved the mystery of a woman’s murder whose semi-nude body was discovered near a Metro pillar in Nehru Place. The recovery of the body created a sensation as two more young women were found killed in the city and the modus operandi appeared to be the same. A Crime Branch team under the supervision of Sanjay Bhatia, Additional DCP of Crime Branch, was on the job and the breakthrough came when the team managed to trace the taxi number that the killers had reportedly used.

On May 15, 2012 DNA reported that vastrapur police on Monday nabbed three people taking bets just 50 metres away from the police station. The arrested include a college student, who had come to collect money from the two punters. On Sunday night, someone spotted three persons taking bets via cellphones in the ongoing IPL match between Deccan Chargers and Kings XI Punjab. On the basis of the tip-off, Vastrapur police nabbed Dharmendra Bhimani (27), Jigar Patel (24) and Nishant Kothari (19) from the area.
