On May 18, 2012 Times of India reported that a teenaged girl studying in class VI of an Unnao school was allegedly raped by her class teacher who later tried to terminate her pregnancy with the help of the school cook. However, as her condition deteriorated, the girl’s parents rushed her to the Queen Mary’s Hospital (QMH) in the city in a critical condition. The government has ordered an inquiry into the incident and would try to find out if there were other victims of the teacher’s misdeed in the school.

Police said Dr C Yogesh, a native of Maharashtra, began an affair with Dr Preethi, an anaesthetist, four months ago with a promise of marriage. He also told her that he had filed a petition in the family court to dissolve his first marriage.

On May 17, 2012 Times of India reported that the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) has arrested a couple for allegedly cheating depositors of Rs. 43 lakh after promising them attractive returns at the chit fund firm they ran. Subburaj, a supervisor of hotel in Vadapalani, and Pappa alias Dhanalakshmi were arrested following a complaint by Gopal, a depositor, and 37 others, alleging that the couple, of Prakasam Street in T Nagar, operated a chit fund company and collected Rs. 43 lakh. However, the duo did not return the promised amount to depositors even after several months and were missing from their house from March 12, the complaint said.

The Jubilee Hills police arrested T Varalaxmi alias Sridevi of Film Nagar in Jubilee Hills. On May 5, she had stolen Rs. 35 lakh worth gold jewellery from her employer L Swapnika Reddy?s house at Nandagiri Hills, Road No. 69, Jubilee Hills and left the place saying that she would go to her native place and return after a few days. After discovering the missing jewellery, the employer lodged a complaint with the Jubilee Hills police recently and on Wednesday, acting on a tip off, the crime team sleuths of Jubilee Hills police station nabbed her from Sri Lakhsmi Jewellers in Krishna Nagar while she was trying to dispose of the stolen booty.

On May 17, 2012 Pune Mirorr reported that the Kondhwa police on Wednesday arrested two members of a health club in Kondhwa for allegedly stealing a debit card from another member on Monday. The suspects, identified as Faraz Zafar Khan (29) of Bhavani Peth and Zahed Sayyed (25) of Kondhwa, were caught in the act on CCTV cameras installed in a petrol pump in Camp and a jewellery store in Wanowrie by Akbar Shaikh, to whom the card belonged. Shaikh then filed a complaint. Shaikh realised his card was missing after he received text messages from the bank, alerting him that his card had been used.
