On May 18, 2012 DNA reported that principal of the Upchar College of Nursing in Mansarovar was arrested by the Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) while accepting the bribe of Rs. 20,000 from two students while the warden of the hostel was arrested for helping the principal to hide the money on Thursday.

The Borivli Government Railway Police (GRP) officers arrested two men last evening for allegedly causing the death of 26-year-old Maqbool Ansari on a Borivli bound local, while they engaged in frivolous antics with another unidentified accused travelling in a train that was moving towards Churchgate in the next track.
On May 18, 2012 Times of India reported that an autorickshaw driver was held by the police on Thursday for attacking a family which had come to Kochi from New Delhi as tourists. The arrested was identified as Salahuddin, 28, of Pallilankara, Kalamassery. The accused was along with a group of auto drivers who attacked the family comprising women. The incident occurred when the family was returning to New Delhi from Kochi after spending their vacation in Kerala. It was on May 11 that the family of Prem Malhotra of Rani Bagh, New Delhi, hired three autos to go to the KSRTC bus stand. While two auto drivers demanded Rs. 50 from the family members, the third driver demanded Rs. 80, to which the family members objected.
On May 18, 2012 Times of India reported that police rescued a Kolkata-based executive, who was abducted on May16, from Odisha and rounded up three of the kidnappers. Amit Kumar Das, 40, a resident of Bidhanpalli in Garia, works as sales manager with a private company at New Alipore. His company has clients in Odisha and Das was thus sent on an official assignment to Cuttack. He reached on May 14 and was supposed to return on May 16.
On May 18, 2012 Times of India reported that a teenaged girl studying in class VI of an Unnao school was allegedly raped by her class teacher who later tried to terminate her pregnancy with the help of the school cook. However, as her condition deteriorated, the girl’s parents rushed her to the Queen Mary’s Hospital (QMH) in the city in a critical condition. The government has ordered an inquiry into the incident and would try to find out if there were other victims of the teacher’s misdeed in the school.

On May 17, 2012 Times of India reported that an executive engineer from the Thane division of the PWD was arrested by anti-corruption bureau officials for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs. 1.5 lakh on Wednesday. Balkrishna Zodge was arrested in his office while accepting the money from a PWD contractor, Sunil Jadhav.
On May 17, 2012 Times of India reported that a 39-year-old paediatric cardiologist working at a hospital in Mogappair was arrested on charges of rape on Tuesday night. Police said Dr C Yogesh, a native of Maharashtra, began an affair with Dr Preethi, an anaesthetist, four months ago with a promise of marriage. He also told her that he had filed a petition in the family court to dissolve his first marriage.
On May 17, 2012 Times of India reported that the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) has arrested a couple for allegedly cheating depositors of Rs. 43 lakh after promising them attractive returns at the chit fund firm they ran. Subburaj, a supervisor of hotel in Vadapalani, and Pappa alias Dhanalakshmi were arrested following a complaint by Gopal, a depositor, and 37 others, alleging that the couple, of Prakasam Street in T Nagar, operated a chit fund company and collected Rs. 43 lakh. However, the duo did not return the promised amount to depositors even after several months and were missing from their house from March 12, the complaint said.
