On September 30, 2010 the Times of India – Kolkata reported that Police on Wednesday arrested three suspects in connection with last December’s double murders of Congress leader Bapi Chowdhury and the Trinamool’s Ranjit Roy at a blood donation camp at Habra, North 24-Parganas. Sanjib Pal, who was among those rounded up, is wanted in many murder and extortion cases and is a close associate of Hubba Shyamal, the lord of Hooghly’s underworld.

On September 30, 2010 the Times of India reported that the Cantonment police on Wednesday booked Kamal Jadhav (35) of Keshavnagar in Mundhwa for allegedly cheating four people from Orissa to the tune of Rs 1 lakh each on the pretext of providing them employment in Canada. According to the police, Jadhav had posted an online advertisement in 2009, of jobs available for the post of aircraft maintenance technicians in Canada.

On September 29, 2010 the Times of India reported that two days after the bodies of three Jaipur-based jewellers were found in Bikaner and Churu districts, the police on Tuesday claimed to have cracked the case and arrested two men. A third person is being interrogated. According to Churu police, the two accused are siblings and residents of Sardarshahar, where the traders had stayed in a hotel.

On September 29, 2010, the Times of India reported that the Members of an NGO that looks after children of commercial sex workers in Nagpada, were worried when a nine-year-old girl under their care stopped getting any sleep at night. The child, Farhana (name changed), stayed at the NGO’s premises most of the time. A gentle probe revealed that while her mother was away, her stepfather had raped her repeatedly at their house. The Nagpada police was informed and the accused, Sharafat Saha (33), was arrested last week.

Sahu on Monday had administered at least three injections to a severe asthma patient of the locality Gobardhan Mallick (40) following which the latter died within minutes.
