Thane: One nabbed for demanding bribe, other still on run

On February 29, 2012 Times of India reported that the anti-corruption bureau (ACB) arrested a constable and is looking for another from the Kasa police station in Thane (rural) for demanding a Rs 2-lakh bribe from a rice trader for releasing his two illegally detained goods trucks.

Thiruvananthapuram: TTE in trouble for outraging the modesty of a woman passenger

On February 29, 2012 Times of India reported that the Railway Protection Force on Tuesday arrested a Train Ticket Examiner (TTE) on charge of outraging the modesty of a woman passenger. The TTE, Ramesh Kumar, hailing from New Delhi was arrested for alleged mental and physical harassment of a woman passenger on board Train 12432 Rajdhani Express. The action followed a complaint by P K Hemalatha, a resident of Vallakadavu here and an employee of Thiruvananthapuram Passport Office.

On February 29, 2012 Mid-Day reported that tightening the noose on former city Congress Chief Kripashankar Singh in a disproportionate assets case, the police yesterday registered an FIR against him and five of his family members. "We have registered an FIR against Singh, his wife Malti Devi, son Narendar Kumar, daughter-in-law Ankita, daughter Sunita and his son-in-law Vijay Pratap Singh.

Ranthambore: Forest department nabs duo wanted in tiger poaching

On February 29, 2012 DNA reported that the Ranthambore Forest department officials arrested two poachers wanted in tiger poaching in the state on Monday afternoon. The poachers, Raju and Badri, were wanted in two cases of tiger killing in the year 1992 and 2004. Sources said both the poachers are arrested by officials of the Ranthambore Forest department. Raju, was arrested on an earlier occasion also by Sariska Forest department but was out on bail. Badri is known to be a notorious poacher who has several cases lodged against him in both the national parks.

Bhiwani: Ex-army man allegedly shoots his daughter dead

On February 29, 2012 Hindustan Times reported that the Haryana Police on Monday night took a former army man into custody for allegedly killing his teenage daughter at Rewari Khera village in Bhiwani district. The 16-year-old girl was shot dead by her father, Ratanpal, police said. The reason for the shooting is, however, not clear.

Nizamabad: Organized sex racket busted, kingpin arrested

On February 29, 2012 Times of India reported that an organized sex racket was busted with the arrest of a woman, who was luring innocent girls and sending them to Hyderabad from Nizamabad district. A total of 27 girls fell prey to the tactics of the accused woman, Gunnabai, who was operating her racket with the help of a Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen leader.

Hyderabad: Police recover booty worth Rs. 63 lakhs in two different cases

On February 29, 2012 Times of India reported that the Cyberabad police have arrested a property offender from Mumbai who was involved in several burglaries in the city and Maharashtra. They recovered Rs 56 lakh worth stolen property from his possession. Police arrested Mohammed Hamed Qureshi, a notorious criminal from Tata Nagar slum in Mumbai. According to Cyberabad commissioner Ch Dwaraka Tirumala Rao, several non-bailable warrants were pending against him in Mumbai and other parts of the country. Qureshi was last arrested by the Bangalore police and released on bail in March 2011.

Hyderabad: Authorities seize ganja worth Rs 3.5 lakh

On February 29, 2012 Times of India reported that about 113 kg of ganja worth Rs 3.5 lakh was seized from a house in Langar Houz by excise and prohibition officials on Monday. The officials raided the house of M Ganesh Singh and arrested his three sons Rumesh, Pinkesh and Jithender Singh who were in possession of the banned substance. However, Ganesh Singh and his other son Dharam Singh managed to escape.

Hyderabad: 30-yr-old sets paramour’s daughter on fire

On February 29, 2012 Times of India reported that a 30-year-old man on Tuesday set his paramour’s minor daughter ablaze to take revenge on the woman in Gajularamaram on the outskirts of the city. The seven-year-old girl, Bhavani, suffered severe burns in the incident and succumbed at hospital later. The accused, Vijay, wanted to take revenge on his paramour Sujatha as he suspected that she was cheating on him.

Bhopal: Interior designer, hit man arrested for RTI activist's murder

On February 29, 2012 Times of India reported that Five months after it began probing the murder of RTI activist Shehla Masood in Bhopal, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Tuesday said it had solved the case arresting two people, including an interior designer, Zahida Pervez. CBI sources said Pervez was the key conspirator in the murder, adding that she had hired a Kanpur hit man called Imran Ali to kill Masood. Imran was nabbed from Kanpur.
