On January 20, 2012 Ahmedabad Mirror reported that Odhav police have arrested autorickshaw driver Pravin Masurkar for killing his wife and daughter on Sunday. The accused, who was missing after murdering the mother-daughter duo, was arrested from Umrada in Udaipur. On January 20, 40-year-old Prachi Masurkar and her 17-year-old daughter Sonu were found dead in their house in Odhav. The police said they traced Pravin through his cellphone. During interrogation, Pravin said, “My wife was suffering from mental illness for the past four years. I had to spend a lot of money on her medicines. But they were of no use. Many a time, she would sleep for hours together. Also, I had to bear the educational expenses of our three children and was already under debt of Rs. 25,000. I was worried that if I told this to Prachi, her condition may worsen. So I strangulated her and our daughter.”
