On January 20, 2012 Times of India reported that Sleuths of central crime branch’s bank fraud wing have drawn up plans to conduct a combing operation in parts of Chennai for Sri Lankan nationals with criminal connections. Police surveillance will be stepped up in these areas after the searches are conducted. Officers said they planned the operation after eight of the 17 people arrested for credit card fraud in 2011 turned out to be Lankan Tamils.
