On January 17, 2012 Hindustan Times reported that escape artist Manoj Bakarwala, 36, one of the most notorious vehicle thieves in north India with over 300 cases against him, was finally arrested by special cell of the Delhi Police on Monday morning. Bakarwala had escaped from police custody thrice and had recently given the slip to crime branch officials when they were chasing him. “He was caught at 5am from the Ghazipur border. We have recovered one sophisticated pistol and eight cartridges from him. During interrogation, he revealed the names of his two associates who were also arrested subsequently,“ Arun Kampani, DCP (special cell) said. He has been remanded in 10-day police custody.
