Shravasti: Authorities nab one over poaching charges
On December 12, 2011 Times of India reported that a patrolling team of 9th battalion of Shashastra Seema Bal (SSB) nabbed a man for poaching at Baghel Lake on the evening of December 10. The team recovered nine Siberian cranes from the bag of the accused, which included eight ‘patera’ and one ‘lalsar’ type. However, two other suspects managed to escape. The accused was identified as Shriram, a resident of Bankata. The birds recovered from Shriram's bag were all dead. The forest department later conducted an autopsy of the birds and identified them as migratory birds. Subsequently, a case under the Wildlife Protection Act was registered against Shriram and he was sent to jail.
