Mumbai: Authorities seized memory cards worth Rs. 85 lakh, 2 held

On December 30, 2011 Mid-Day reported that with a prior intelligence about two smugglers trying to sneak in a large consignment of memory cards into the city, the Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) led by its Deputy Commissioner Sameer Wankhede, laid a trap and nabbed a duo. The arrested duo has been identified as Sakib Ghulam Samir Ambrelia (25) and Iram Bahad Gandhi (29).

New Delhi: Killer husband on run after leaving daughter at a relative's place

On December 30, 2011 Hindustan Times reported that a week after a highly decomposed body of a 25-year-old married woman was found in her apartment in Rohini, police have traced her four-year-old daughter, who had been missing since the incident. The police said that the woman's husband -Krishna Rao -and daughter were missing and Rao is being considered the prime suspect.

Ghaziabad: Elderly couple murdered by BBA student

On December 30, 2011 Hindustan Times reported that an 18-year-old BBA student and his accomplice were arrested by the police from Bhojpur area near Modi Nagar town of Ghaziabad on Thursday for murdering a senior citizen couple in their sleep. Police said the accused had also taken gold worth Rs 3 lakh, a Wagon-R car and cash on December 22 night from the victims' house.

New Delhi: Trio held for robbing software engineer

On December 30, 2011 Times of India reported that three men have been arrested by the southwest district police on Thursday. The trio reported to have robbed and stabbed a software engineer in Dwarka recently. The engineer survived the attack. Police said the accused, identified as Dharambir alias Seetu (24), Pankaj (22) and Shiv Kumar alias Shibu (22), used to resort to robbery to maintain a lavish lifestyle.

Jaipur: Ex-pilot apprehended for duping

On December 30, 2011 DNA reported that an ex-pilot who allegedly duped an official of Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) has been arrested under Mahesh Nagar Police station on Thursday. The accused have been identified as Somesh Bhatnagar (40), a resident of Hanging Garden located in Jai Singh Pura at Bhankrota, said the police. Sanjay Sharma SHO at Mahesh Nagar Police station informed that the accused was the owner of Somali Tours and Travels and he duped the chief manager of IOCL, Awadh Kishore Singh by not returning the money paid for a tour package. The victim resides at Sitapura in the quarters provided by the department.

Mumbai: Two held for betting on international cricket matches

On December 30, 2011 Hindustan Times reported that two men were arrested by the Borivli police on Wednesday evening for allegedly betting on international cricket matches, the police said. The police have been able to seize Rs 6.3 lakh in cash from the duo. Police said Mukesh Shah, 54, and his employee Chandrakant Shah, 56, would conduct their business from Mukesh's residence in Shivdham apartments, Satyanagar in Borivli (West). Mukesh, lived in the apartment with his wife and two children.

Howrah: Authorities nab prime accused in promoter murder case

On December 30, 2011 Hindustan Times reported that after Sejua, the city police have arrested seven people in connection with building promoter Gautam Roy murder case. On Thursday they were arrested from Tikiapara. The police have found a single-shot pistol from their possession. “These people were trying to flee Howrah and, after receiving a tip-off, we arrested them. Among them is Sahazada, who masterminded the plot to kill Roy in order to eliminate his business rival,” said Akhilesh Chaturvedi, DC-crime.

On December 30, 2011 Mumbai Mirror reported that Gandhinagar police on Thursday arrested two persons for robbing a Rajkot resident. The incident occurred late on Wednesday evening. According to the police, Praful Varotariya, 30, a resident of Rajkot, had come to the city to see his friend in Bodakdev. Around 9.30 pm, when Praful was waiting for a Rajkot-bound bus at Isckon Circle on S G highway, a white Xylo stopped near him. “The driver in the car asked about my destination. When I said Rajkot, he told me to join him as he too was going there. There were two men already sitting in the car,” stated Praful’s complaint.

Pune: Woman accuses constable of rape, forgery

On December 30, 2011 Pune Mirror reported that a suspended State Reserved Police Force (SRPF) constable has been accused of rape and forgery by a 25-year-old woman. The woman alleges that the constable procured a fake marriage registration certificate using her degree documents to gain her confidence and maintain a physical relationship with her.

Mumbai: Auto driver nabbed in Dutch woman molestation case

On December 30, 2011 Mumbai Mirror reported that an autorickshaw driver from Nallasopara was arrested on Thursday, two days after he and his friend were accused of molesting and robbing an 18-year-old Dutch woman at Aarey Milk Colony. A call by accused Ramjit Nishad to his wife — from the victim's mobile phone — gave away his location, the police said. A police team is in Uttar Pradesh, looking for Nishad's friend, also an autorickshaw driver.
