Ahmedabad: Father, son duo held for assaulting cops at airport

On November 30, 2011 Times of India reported that a father-son duo, owners of a beer bar in London, has been booked for assaulting police officials at the Ahmedabad airport. The two landed at the airport early Tuesday morning in an Air India London-Mumbai-Ahmedabad flight. Mukesh Goradia and his son Parth, who are UK citizens, allegedly got into a scuffle with immigration officials after they were stopped from breaking the immigration check queue at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel international airport in Ahmedabad. Sardarnagar police officials arrested the two after the incident.

New Delhi: Call centre managers sacked for harassing female trainees

On November 30, 2011 Mid-Day reported that intra-office relationships are complex. But, these people took it too far. Two assistant managers at a call centre in Gurgaon were sacked by the management after four female trainees alleged that the accused were sexually harassing them. The victims have filed a complaint with Udyog Vihar police station. No FIR has been lodged yet. An official said the case is being investigated.

New Delhi: Former cop held for extorting money

On November 30, 2011 Mid-Day reported that the what does an out-of-job Delhi police constable do? Well that partly depends on why he lost his employment. In Jagdish Chander's case, he was sacked by the department some time ago on charges of extortion. The ex-cop then decided to turn his backup job into his vocation. Chander was held on Monday for allegedly extorting money from a Moti Lal Nehru College student and his friend, a civil engineering student, who were sitting together in Nehru Park in New Delhi district.

Mumbai: Police seeks custody of another accused in journalist's murder case

On November 30, 2011 Mid-Day reported that the Crime Branch is not taking any chances in the investigation of MiD DAY journalist J Dey's murder case. On Friday, the Crime Branch arrested Jigna Vora, a journalist, on charges of conspiracy in the case. And based on the information provided by Vora, the cops have moved an application in the MCOCA court seeking the police custody of Paulson Joseph, a Chhota Rajan aide.

On November 30, 2011 Hindustan Times reported that the CPI(M) panchayat pradhan of Shibpur gram panchayat in Murshidabad has been arrested for embezzlement of Rs 11 lakh from Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) funds.

New Delhi: 13-year-old girl molested by doctor

On November 30, 2011 The Pioneer reported that a doctor has been arrested for allegedly molesting a 13-year-old girl in the Palam village area. The girl, a Class VI student, had gone for a check-up at the doctor’s clinic when he allegedly misbehaved with her. The doctor was arrested after the victim’s parents lodged a complaint with police on Monday. The accused doctor has been identified as Harpal Singh. The girl’s father is a bus conductor and she studies in Sarvodaya Kanya Vidyalaya.

Pune: Former Marathi film actress held for running sex racket

On November 30, 2011 Pune Mirror reported that a Marathi film and theatre actress, whose repertoire includes the well-known play Kutumb Ranglay Kavyat, was arrested by the city crime branch officials on Tuesday, ironically for running a sex racket at her rented row house at NIBM Road. The officials also arrested two aides. Fifty-two-year-old Padmaja Vishwanath Bapat was deserted by her husband, also a prominent theatre artiste based in Mumbai, in 1999, after which she shifted base to Pune, police said.

Mumbai: Three fake sadhus held

On November 30, 2011 Mumbai Mirror reported that Vashi locals caught three fake godmen in two incidents and got them arrested on Monday. Police say it was greed and inexperience that landed the fake sadhus behind bars. In the first case, cops booked Sachin Shinde, 35, on charges of duping a 72-year-old woman Anandi Khanvilkar. According to Khanvilkar’s complaint, on November 16, Shinde came to her doorsteps posing as a sadhu. Police said Shinde requested Khanvilkar to give him a glass of water and let him in. Once inside, Shinde told the victim that her stars were against her and he could fix the problem by doing some puja. He then asked Khanvilkar for her gold jewellery.

Bangalore: Kannada film actress stabbed by lover

On November 30, 2011 Times of India reported that a small-time Kannada film actress was stabbed repeatedly by her former lover in their residence at Judicial Layout near Yelahanka on Tuesday afternoon. Soumya Gowda, 23, was admitted to Baptist Hospital in Hebbal in a critical condition. The accused, Anil Kumar MG, 27, a dismissed Kodagu District Armed Reserve constable and native of Kushalnagar, later attempted suicide by stabbing himself. Soumya, who debuted in ‘Huduga Hudugi’ directed by Indrajit Lankesh, has acted in four other movies which are in a post-production stage. She was in a relationship with Anil but broke off with him after coming to know that he was married.

Chennai: Another case of infant abduction from hospital

On November 30, 2011 Times of India reported that Chennai police on Tuesday arrested a 26-year-old woman for stealing a newborn from the Chennai Corporation-run Anjugam Maternity Hospital in Ganesapuram near the Vyasarpadi Jeeva railway station. This is the second such incident in the city since Sunday, when the Royapuram police arrested L Anushya for attempting to kidnap a baby from RSRM Hospital.
