On October 27, 2011 DNA reported that Refused drinks after deadline, the associate of a councillor stabbed a bar owner and fled the scene. Police have arrested Shakeel Ahmed, Congress councillor of Bharathinagar ward, and his four associates for attempt to murder Nayeem. The incident happened at Lais Bar on Church Street around 11.20 pm on Tuesday. Ahmed, a resident of Shivajinagar, and four of his associates walked into the bar around closing time at 11.20 pm and ordered the bartenders to serve them liquor. The bartenders refused saying they strictly follow the police orders to stop serving liquor at 11.30 pm.
