Kolkata: Boy kills self, father held

On October 31, 2011 Times of India reported that the a Class-X student of a Baranagar school met the same fate as 15-year-old Biswadip Bhattacharya. While the latter was beaten to death by his father six years back, this time the boy chose to kill himself for not being able to fulfill the expectation of his ambitious father. On Sunday morning, police found the lifeless body of the boy from his Sonamukhi residence in Maheshtala on the south-western fringe of Kolkata.

Ahmedabad: 25-year-old abducted and raped for failing to pay debt

On October 31, 2011 Times of India reported that the a 25-year-old woman was abducted and raped by a moneylender in Hathijan when she failed to pay up the debt. A team of police officials raided the house where the victim was confined and rescued her on Friday evening. Police arrested two accused on Saturday. The victim, Anjali Vaghela (name changed), 25, a resident of Hathijan, had married three years back. She divorced her husband after two years of marriage and was living with her parents at Hathijan. She had taken a loan of Rs 40,000 from Rajesh Patel, a building contractor and small-time moneylender, to set up a small sewing unit six months back. When she failed to pay up, Patel along with seven others abducted her along with her sister on October 22.

Bangalore: Six arrested in multi-crore NGO scam

On October 31, 2011 Mid-Day reported that the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) arrested a gang of five, led by a woman, who misused international credit cards and stole over Rs 15 crore under the pretext of running a charitable trust. CID investigations reveal that Regina Seelan along with 6 other trustees established 'Salve Regina Charitable Trust" in the city in March 2005 and obtained exemption under section 80G of the Income Tax Act in 2007, and in 2009 obtained permission from the Ministry of Home Affairs to accept contributions under the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA).

New Delhi: Driver arrested for stealing NRI employer’s credit card

On October 31, 2011 Times of India reported that a 25-year-old driver was arrested in northwest Delhi for allegedly stealing his NRI employer’s credit card and buying gold jewellery with the same. The accused has been identified as, said cops. “Jaspreet Singh Bhatia, the driver of Keshav Bhagat who resides in Moscow, was apprehended from Kakrola in Uttam Nagar for stealing the credit card and buying jewellery,” said B S Jaiswal, deputy commissioner of police (Outer).

New Delhi: Duo apprehended for cheating bank

On October 31, 2011 Times of India reported that two people were arrested in southeast Delhi for allegedly forging documents and cheating ICICI bank of over Rs 63 lakh. The accused have been identified as Girish Pathak and Jitender Singh, said cops. Police received a complaint from the branch manager of ICICI Kalkaji alleging that accused persons got hold of the details of a customer’s account and misused the same for unlawful gain.

New Delhi: Man arrested for raping 12-year-old girl

On October 31, 2011 Times of India reported that a 30-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly raping a 12-year-old girl in the Mehrauli area of south Delhi. The accused has been identified as Vijay Kumar, who is married and has two children, police said.

Navi Mumbai: Woman gangraped, 1 held

On October 31, 2011 Times of India reported that two youths gang-raped a female labourer, while her husband was held at knifepoint outside their hut in Ulwe near Belapur on Saturday. NRI police arrested one of the accused, Pratap Narhari Patil, also a resident of Ulwe. The victim’s husband said that two men in their 20s barged into their hut and threatened him with a knife.

New Delhi: Woman, son arrested for attempting to murder a relative

On October 31, 2011 Mid-Day reported that a woman and her son were arrested on Saturday for attempting to murder their relative in outer Delhi. A senior police official said that the incident took place in Aman Vihar. The accused were identified as Hari Chand and his mother Rukmini. They live in C-1 block of Hari Nagar area. "Sonu, Hari Chand's brother-in-law, had come to meet his sister on the evening of Bhai Duj. Hari Chand had an argument with his wife. Things got heated up. Sonu tried to intervene and was shouted at by Hari Chand.

Indore: Woman set ablaze by husband

On October 31, 2011 DNA reported that Frustrated over regular fight with wife on trivial issues, a man poured some inflammable substance at her and set ablaze in Heera Nagar area late on Saturday night. He also sustained burns in the incident. Twenty-three-year-old Usha, wife of Satish, a resident of Gauri Nagar, was admitted to MY Hospital in critical condition. Though the victim was yet to record her statement, police arrested her husband Satish for attempt to murder.

Yamunanagar: Duo arrested for killing retired police officer

On October 31, 2011 Hindustan Times reported that the local police have arrested two youth involved in the killing of a retired police officer at Yamuna Nagar. They were produced in the court and sent for two days' police remand. Jagbir Singh, retired ASI of Haryana police and resident of Harbans Pura area, was attacked on October 20. Seriously injured, he was shifted to PGI, Chandigarh, where he succumbed to his injuries on October 23. Jagbir was attacked by four assailants, who were his relatives and were involved in a land dispute.
