Chennai: Shop Owner convicted for selling adulterated ice cream

On August 10, 2011 Times of India reported that a metropolitan magistrates court has held a shop owner in Triplicane guilty of selling adulterated ice cream. The court sentenced him to six months in prison and fined him Rs 5,000. K Manoj, owner of Hawana Juice and Ice Cream on Triplicane High Road, was found selling adulterated ice cream when sanitary and food inspectors conducted a surprise raid at commercial establishments in the Ice House zone a few months ago. A sample taken by the food inspector and tested at the laboratory in Ripon Buildings proved adulteration.
