Chennai: Man behind bars over extortion charges

On July 06, 2011 Times of India reported that police on Tuesday arrested a DMK cadre for extortion in Thiruvanmiyur. Police arrested Mangaleri Kandan, 30, based on complaints from Kannan and Sargunavathy of Thiruvanmiyur. According to police, Kandan had asked Sargunavathy for protection money. He had also threatened Kannan and demanded money. Following this, a quarrel ensued between them.
