Mumbai: Man arrested for allegedly duping movie personalities

On July 29, 2011 Mid-Day reported that the Oshiwara police yesterday arrested a man for allegedly duping Bollywood personalities such as director duo Abbas-Mustan, director Ashok Gaikwad, lyricist Sameer and singer Aadesh Shrivastav. The accused identified as Varinder Kumar, better known as V Kumar, had promised to give them MHADA flats at a cheaper rate. According to the police, the accused had duped Sameer and other film personalities to the tune of Rs. 95 lakh and cops are investigating if he has been involved in any other cheating cases.

Mumbai: Russian woman lured her victims with a honey trap

On July 29, 2011 Mid-Day reported that in the season of romance, a sinister tale of love and entrapment that stretches across cultures has emerged from the crime files of Dahisar police station. According to an FIR, lodged at the Dahisar police station, a woman of Russian nationality identified as Mashkina Svetlana has been on the prowl in the country since 2002. She has entrapped several gullible men in various cities across the country and is currently absconding. Her modus operandi is just as simple as it is brilliant. She traps a person, proclaims her undying love for the man, and moves in with him.

New Delhi: Two of five kidnappers suspected serial offenders

On July 29, 2011 Times of India reported that at least two of the five youths who kidnapped a woman near Ghitorni Metro station early on Sunday may be serial offenders. They had been arrested in the middle of this month for almost a similar offence. Ravish Nagar (22), who was held on Thursday, and Kartar Singh (22), already in custody, were earlier nabbed for misbehaving with a woman and later slapping her at a pub in Hauz Khas, the South Delhi police said.The duo was even asked to appear for a test identification parade just five days before they attacked the four women near the Metro station.

Kurukshetra: Lover boy kills woman, injures himself

On July 29, 2011 Hindustan Times reported that a jilted lover stabbed a married woman to death before inflicting injuries on his person near Pehowa on Thursday. The police said Sunny, 18, of Aurunay village was struggling for life in the local hospital, while the 22-year-old girl was declared brought dead at the hospital. Sunny, who had been outcaste by his father reportedly had an affair with the girl of the same village. She was married to another man a month back. On Thursday, Sunny attacked the girl when she was walking on a road along with her sister.

Mumbai: Man doubts wife’s fidelity, beheads her

On July 29, 2011 Times of India reported that a 35-year-old man, doubting his wife’s fidelity, beheaded her and his 18-month-old daughter at their Nalasopara (E) residence on Thursday. He stayed put with the bodies till the police arrived. The accused, Chandrakant Ahire, was living in Bilalpada with his wife Sanchita (25) and daughter Vaishnavi for the past one-and-a-half years, said a police officer. He was working as a driver with a private firm in Mumbai. According to Ahire’s neighbours, the couple had frequent quarrels. Ahire suspected his wife of having illicit affairs with men from the locality.

Dehradun: Duo apprehended over ‘attempt to rape’ charges

On July 29, 2011 The Pioneer reported that two persons were arrested for allegedly attempting to rape a woman at Shankerpur village, and were later sent to jail by the court on Thursday. The accused identified as Irfan, son of Yamin and Faizan son of Iliyas were produced before court and later sent to jail. Accused were resident of Shankerpur, Sahaspur. As per police when all the family members of the victim were not at residence, the accused reportedly entered into the houses of victim after finding her alone and tried to rape her. However, locals of the area rushed toward the house after listening her sought and in the meantime accused escaped from the spot.

Haridwar: Trio sentenced to 3 years jail for attacking forest employees

On July 29, 2011 The Pioneer reported that three persons accused of attacking forest employees in Rajaji National Park two years ago, were each sentenced to three years of imprisonment on Wednesday. Session judge, Sankar Raj gave the verdict in the case. The accused have also been charged with a fine of Rs. 10,000 each, failing which their terms will be extended by three more months. According to the police, a forest employee, Ichharam Nautiyal, along with his colleagues, Bhuvan Chand and Prithivi Singh was on a routine patrol in the Dholkhand range of Rajaji National Park on June 19, 2009. The trio spotted around ten persons roaming in the protected forest area and started querying into the matter.

Ahmedabad: ATM fraudster hacked a plan to escape custody

On July 29, 2011 Ahmedabad Mirror reported that Ashok Gupta (22) who was arrested by the police for an ATM fraud, tried to escape from police custody by trying to connive with a cellmate in the police lock up, but Ashok did not succeed as his cellmate informed the police about his plans. Ashok Gupta, who along with his accomplice had fraudulently withdrawn money from the account of a retired teacher using his ATM card, was arrested by police from Chandkheda on July 26. He was taken to Kagdapith police station and kept in the lock up, where two other accused involved in a case of robbery were already lodged.

Hyderabad: Techie loses control over his car while reversing, kills one

On July 29, 2011 Times of India reported that a daily-wager died and two others suffered severe injuries when a techie lost control over his car while reversing on Road No. 5, Jubilee Hills on Thursday evening. According to Jubilee Hills police, Anil Babu Sukhavasi, a software engineer with a city-based firm, went to a relative’s house on Road No. 5, Jubilee Hills to attend a death anniversary function. At around 3.30 pm, he emerged from the house of his relative, who is the chairman and managing director of a city-based resorts company. “Anil got into his Santro car (AP09-AP4612) and while reversing it, did not notice the daily wage workers sleeping next to the road,” Jubilee Hills inspector K Narsinga Rao said.

Chennai: Key accused in fake mark-sheet scam apprehended

On July 29, 2011 Times of India reported that the police on Thursday arrested Klington, 48, alias Clayton McLloyd, a key accused in the Plus-2 fake mark-sheet scam busted in July last year, at Perambur. Clayton had been absconding for the last one year. A case had been registered based on a complaint of Director of Government Examinations Vasundhara Devi.
