On June 01, 2011 Mumbai Mirror reported that nine months after Mumbai Mirror first reported about the horrors faced by the children at Shahpur’s Kavdas orphanage, finally some arrests have been made. The arrests, of Sikander Pinjari (34), Syyed Nawab (33), Harshada Nichite (24) and Sakshi Gole (41), come a month after ACP Rashmi Karandikar was appointed by the Bombay High Court to further investigate the case. While Pinjari and Nawab were caretakers at the now shut orphanage, Harshada was a teacher and Sakshi was the president of the trust that ran the place. While Pinjari and Nawab were charged with raping the five female inmates and sodomising 13 male inmates, Harshada and Sakshi were arrested for abetting the crimes. Last year, after the initial Mirror reports Shahpur police registered a case of assault, rape, molestation and neglect against the founder of the home Pundalik Gole, Sakshi’s husband, saying he was the only person responsible for the crimes in the orphanage.
