On April 5, 2011 Times of India reported that the city police on Sunday arrested a DMK woman councillor’s son, S Kumaravel, on charges of chain-snatching at Zam Bazaar. Police said Kumaravel, who was arrested for snatching a chain from Jayanthi of Zam Bazaar, later confessed to have snatched a 10-sovereign chain from veteran actor SS Rajendran’s wife Tamil Selvi in February last. The police recovered seven sovereign stolen gold ingots from Kumaravel, a resident of Appu Street in Mylapore.
