On March 31, 2011 Hindustan Times reported that police on Wednesday a quack who accepted having performed surgical operations of penectomy (penile amputation) on more than 50 people in Ghaziabad and Greater Noida areas. Navi Mohammed (40) was arrested for conducting one such operation on 23-year-old Nadeem Mohammed, a resident of Modi Nagar, who became a victim to the rivalry between two eunuch groups.

On March 31, 2011 Mumbai Mirror reported that relying on circumstantial evidence, a fast-track sessions’ court convicted actor Shiney Ahuja for raping his maid, and sentenced him to seven years’ rigorous imprisonment, although the victim had turned hostile during the trial. The actor was also fined Rs 3,000 by Sessions Judge P M Chouhan. He was taken to jail directly from court.

On March 31, 2011 Pune Mirror reported that the chief judicial magistrate’s court sentenced Shashikumar Upadhyay alias Vishal alias Mohammed Bilal Mohammed Hussain (28), an Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) agent, to seven years’ rigorous imprisonment (RI) on Tuesday. Upadhyay, an engineering student from Annasaheb Magar College of Pimpri, became ISI agent after falling in love with a Pakistani girl Fatima Sallaudin Shah.

On March 31, 2011 the Pioneer reported that police has arrested two persons allegedly responsible for attacking a resident of Dobhalwala area in the last week. Police has also recovered a pistol with one live and used cartridge with them. While interacting to The Pioneer, SSP Dehradun GS Martolia said that two persons named Satyendra Kumar Tyagi, a resident of Saharanpur and Sunil Kumar Sharma who hails from Meerut were arrested along with a pistol with one live and one used cartridge.

On March 30, 2011 Deccan Chronicle reported that the police opened fire on a gang of dacoits while they were trying to hijack a container of tobacco worth around Rs 20 lakh belonging to the ITC factory early on Tuesday morning. The dacoity attempt failed thanks to quick action by the police who managed to arrest five of the gang. The police had to fire at the dacoits in self-defence when the gang attacked them with lethal weapons.

On March 30, 2011 Hindustan Times reported that a court in Korapur district has put two police gun-men in jail, one for 10 years and another for three, on the charge of killing Jaswinder Singh, Orissa-cadre DIG from Jalandhar, on October 2006. The family of the slain deputy inspector general of police has sought at least life sentence for such crime. Convicts Srinand Sarangi and Ashish Sarangi killed the DIG from Punjab when he was in charge of the operations against Naxalite rebels.

On March 30, 2011 Pune Mirror reported that the Service Tax Cell of Pune I Commissionerate of Central Excise and Service Tax arrested a service tax consultant on charges of preparing fake documents, e-payment receipts and challans. The ST consultant, Amol Adhav, was arrested by the Talegaon Dabhade police after a First Information Report (FIR) was lodged against him by Assistant Commissioner. It stated that Adhav forged and altered challans, registration certificates, ST-3 returns and defrauded the government to the tune of Rs 12 lakh.

On March 30, 2011 Times of India reported that two persons working as “crime reporters” were arrested in northeast Delhi for allegedly trying to extort money from a businessman by threatening to publish negative reports about him. The victim was the brother of one of the accused. The accused have been identified as Sahdev Singh and Shahid Ahmad. The duo, who worked with a local weekly newspaper ‘Vardaat A to Z’ was arrested from near Bhagirathi Water Works Plant on Monday on the basis of a complaint by one Rashid Mehmood – Shahid Ahmad’s brother.
