On February 28, 2011 Times of India reported that the police registered kidnapping cases against Maoists Prasad, Ganesh, Chanti, Anand Rao and others at Chitrakonda police station on Sunday. They have been charged with allegedly abducting Malkangiri collector R Vineel Krishna and junior engineer Pabitra Majhi, more than 10 days after they were abducted. Krishna and Majhi returned last week after the Orissa government agreed to set free five Maoists.

On February 25, 2011 Times of India reported that after altering a loot and murder case into that of a dacoity and murder, the police, with the arrest of four persons, have ‘proved’ that that the incident was that of loot and murder and not dacoity. A 70-year-old man, running a dairy and identified as Ram Ratan, a resident of Madhvapur village under Thakurganj police station was killed by miscreants, while his brother Sunder was seriously injured.

On February 28, 2011 Times of India reported that a sloshed bus driver went berserk on Sunday evening and almost ran over a scooterist and her son before passing out on his seat. Ironically, Amar Rajput, who caused the accident, was a replacement for another drunk driver named Chirag Joshi. Joshi was asked to get off the route 50 bus to Meghaninagar after the controller found out he was drunk. But he failed to make out that even Rajput was in an inebriated state.

The police here on Sunday evening arrested four high profile businessmen for betting and recovered a cache from where they were operating their betting business at the international level. On February 28, 2011 Deccan Chronicle reported that according to the police, the prime accused in the LIC exam paper leak case, Yogeshwar Kumar Rao, a school teacher, had managed to get the question papers from the press where it was printed. He then passed it on to agents who in turn, approached candidates appearing for the exams. For the post of AAO in LIC, the gang collected Rs.7 lakh from each candidate and provided the question paper one day before the exam.
