YouTube Preview Image On January 27, 2012 Times of India reported that Santosh Mane, the state transport driver who went on a rampage mowing down eight persons and injuring 27 others, was on Thursday remanded in police custody till February 3 by a local court with lawyers refusing to appear for him. There was no sign of remorse on 30-year-old Mane, who was produced in the court of judicial magistrate VB Borha,has been charged under sections 302 (murder), 307 (attempt to murder), 326 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt), 324 (voluntarily causing hurt), and 381 (theft) of the Indian Penal Code in addition to offences related to damageto public property. On January 26, 2012 Hindustan Times reported that a woman Maoist cadre allegedly involved in several criminal activities surrendered before police in Odisha's Gajapati district on Wednesday. “The Maoist cadre Tabita Mallick of Gangamunda village in Adaba police station area, was active in Maoist activities since 2009,“ superintendent of police Sarthak Sarangi said. On January 26, 2012 Hindustan Times reported that three men were arrested for allegedly robbing a couple at the Sanjay Gandhi National Park in Borivli (East) on Wednesday. The police said the trio, Ronny Pradhan alias Raju, 32, Atin Marodia, 25, and Azruddin Shaikh, 22, threatened a couple at knifepoint and made way with Rs 300 in cash, gold earrings and two mobile phones, collectively worth Rs19,300. On January 26, 2012 Hindustan Times reported that a 30-year-old property dealer was gunned down in broad daylight near Shalimar Garden area of Ghaziabad on Wednesday. Police investigations revealed that the victim had eloped with a 17-year-old girl from Loni area of Ghaziabad seven years ago. Mumbai: Graphic designer, his aide held in cop job scam

On January 26, 2012 Times of India reported that the Mulund police on Wednesday arrested two men—a graphic designer Ashish Pednekar (39) and his accomplice— Ramchandra Ugwekar alias Vilas (50)—who were reportedly found with a dye used to make fake government seals and stamps. The accused sold fake government seals and stamps for a minimum of Rs 10,000 to those who applied for government and police jobs. Police said the names of the accused figured in the call records of two youths—Mangesh Satpute (28) and Rohan Bheke (22) —arrested on December 24, 2011 for making fake identity cards, with fake seals of the commissioner and director general of police, to attend the physical test for police recruitment. Mumbai: Authorities nab BPO employee for rape, cheating

On January 26, 2012 Times of India reported that the Bangur Nagar police arrested a BPO employee on Tuesday after his former girlfriend accused him of rape and cheating. Officials said the accused, M Contractor (30), also allegedly took Rs 5 lakh from the victim on the pretext of starting a business, but did not repay the amount. Contractor is a resident of Mira Road; the victim is nine years elder to him. The duo worked in the same BPO on Malad Link Road. The victim had separated from her husband and moved in with her parents in Goregaon (W). She has a five-year-old son and is yet to get a formal divorce. Continue reading…

Indore: Man held in 3-yr-old abduction, murder case

On January 26, 2012 DNA reported that crime branch team of city police on Tuesday nabbed an absconding accused in 3-year-old abduction and murder case from Saithi Nagar. Nilu alias Nilesh, a resident of Saithi Nagar, with his accomplice Jaypal, a resident of Beena, allegedly abducted Archana, a resident of Pardeshipura, on July 28, 2009. They demanded a ransom of `5 lakh from her family. Failing to get the money, they killed the victim and threw her body in a well at Bicholi Mardana. Continue reading…

New Delhi: Two arrested with an antique worth Rs. 7.5 crore

On January 26, 2012 The Pioneer reported that a rare and antique idol of Lord Mahavir, dated back to 14th century, has been seized from two persons. The market value of the antique idol, made of ashtdhatu is estimated to be around Rs 7.5 crore in the international market. The accused Shiv Taj Singh (54) and Sanjay Kumar (31) were arrested from Maharani Bagh where they had come to meet a prospective buyer. The idol, which is 21.5 cm high and 16.5 cm in width, was allegedly stolen from Rajasthan by one Moulvi Mohammad Saheed. Moulvi in turn handed it over to Shiv Taj, a cab driver for selling it to a suitable buyer. Continue reading…

On January 26, 2012 The Pioneer reported that gurgaon police on Thursday claimed to have busted a gang of high-profile carjackers from Bajgeda road in Palam Vihar area of Gurgaon and arrested five notorious criminals. Adilabad: 14-yr-old sacrificed for hidden treasure

On January 26, 2012 Times of India reported that in what could be a case of human sacrifice, a 14-year-old boy fell prey to the designs of treasure hunters in Adilabad district. The body of Pasuparthi Ganesh was dug out from a trench in an old fort on the outskirts of Nirmal town on Thursday morning. Two accused, who confessed to murdering the boy for hidden riches, were arrested. Police are looking out for seven others involved in the conspiracy. Continue reading…
